Blake Home Group is so excited to announce that we are working with the LGBT+ Housing Initiative. The Initiative has been a passion project that’s been in the works within the Keller Williams Rainbow Network. One of the biggest ideas within Keller Williams is to find your “Big Why”. LGBT+ people are less likely to own a home, and unfortunately are MORE likely to experience homelessness in their youth.
Studies indicate that once homeless, LGBTQ youth are at higher risk for victimization and suffer higher incidents of mental health problems and unsafe sexual behavior than straight homeless youth. They experience an average of 7.4 more acts of sexual violence toward them than their heterosexual peers and are more likely to attempt suicide (62%) than their heterosexual homeless peers (29%)
All these numbers can be disheartening, but we are working with the Initiative and The Bright Star Foundation here in Southern Nevada to help change that. Bright Star is currently housing LGBT folks from the valley, helping people get back on their feet and on with their lives.
